Hudson Valley Billboard Creative Guidelines
Follow these Billbaord Creative Guidelines to create an effective Billboard design. They will help you create a Billboard that catches the eye and leaves a lasting impression. Remember your audience has a short time to read and absorb your message.
Be obvious and noticeable.
Small type, images and logos do not work for Billboards. Effective Billboard design requires larger creative.
These ads should be able to be quickly read. The simpler you can make them, the more effective they will be.
Keep text to a minimum – a good general rule to keep in mind is seven words or less.
Make sure type is large and heavy enough to be seen at a distance.
Make sure that there is adequate color contrast between type and other elements, and the background they are placed against, so that objects and text are discernable from a distance.
Choose large, bold visuals that are simple enough to be interpreted quickly and/or from far away.
Use a font with consistent thickness.
Avoid type with extreme thick-and-thin lines. The thin areas will disappear from far away.
Keep moderate spacing between characters.
Use simple and bold images that can be “read” quickly.
If audiences can’t figure out what they’re looking at, the ad won’t work.
Hudson Valley Billboard reserves the right to accept or reject copy to be placed on its outdoor displays in its sole and absolute discretion. Our decision as to what we post is a carefully considered matter that ultimately involves a subjective analysis, exercised in good faith, and is based upon many factors, including but not limited to the proposed copy and the area(s) where it is proposed to be placed.
In general, messaging/images that will not be deemed acceptable are: profanity, nudity, lewdness, graffitistyle typeface (or copy that invites graffiti), messaging that denigrates the facility, the owner, the location or the business conducted thereon, property owner, and copy that is offensive to various groups; as well as other criteria.
